I love this area of my state, and grew up exploring these hills. This means a lot to me and I am trying to protect my people, I love you all. #PTown
So this spending sounds nice, but if you hear me out, I think it is hurting us long term, and here are just a few of the reasons to consider:
1) Any project done by the government is not given the same level of negotiation power, as the projects must be completed on schedule. Government lacks leverage. Another layer of that is the certification process, further reducing the companies that can bid on such a project. One of two outcomes seem to occur- the contract price is much higher to the taxpayer to cover such costs, or the quality suffers to make the bottom line work. Companies are not incentivized to worry about their brand and quality of work because they will keep getting it if they jump through the right hoops, or have a government connection. Or Union.
2) Increased demand raising costs for citizens. When companies feast on lucrative government contracts in large scale projects, the common buyer of services becomes second class service, much like large corporate contracts that can put us at risk for monopolies. Wal-Mart vs your local supermarket problems and bulk quality concerns. The prices rise, aka Inflation occurs on those services if not negotiated to a normal level, it disrupts the whole market.
3) Who owns the Land? Many times these projects are funneled to make certain people rich, and many times with a tax write off! Corrupt churches, community centers, those things seem nice but are rarely followed through on because it is hard to find that data for the average American. And who would suspect a nice person! Many of these places are full of great people doing great things! Not giving to any particular "Center" avoids this corruption, especially in large amounts. Let the people have more money and do it ourselves, I but girl scout cookies, we can do stuff like that and we already do. The people in this country care about each other.
4) Who owns the business? If a local business unfairly directs funds to an area to drive up their property value or revenue. All streets need upgrades right now, whoever gets roads fixed has a huge advantage and property value increase.
5) donor citizens: Super wealthy individuals command the democracy via donations, and social power. They can have the government direct our money to make them richer much more easily. Offer a movie part or take on their script and they do ya favors. *Lori Loughlin effect*
6) Technology spends- should be a function of government to have a technology employee facilitate these spends, keep existing hardware secure, and improve quality rather than lump sum spends that tend to be wasteful. Only 93k for a single police department fyi.
7) Ursinus Has a 75,000 dollar tuition for things you can learn on YouTube. Why are we spending 1 Million on improving their entire street? That school can't afford to help the town? Rather, we help them, and then other non-upper-class colleges are competing with the town now? Not fair.
8) So now we need a center to eliminate racism for just women? 500k for that!? Are you kidding me it's so sexist! Give money back to the people! The YW3CA even get's involved in voting, that is so conflict of interest! The roads in Pottstown have always been garbage, HELP EVERYONE NOT CERTAIN GROUPS OMG. And, again, who owns the property, who owns the property around it? I am all about improvement but leave it to the public and give them more money to do it themselves, without the chance for corruption without penalty. There is zero accountability in government when projects just need to be pushed through and money is handed out like this. What businesses gained from this contract. It sounds nice, it always does, but this is 500K towards this small thing. We are only increasing our tax burden and that is communism. What about all the other centers that need this money, you spent it all in one place? Seems like money laundering.
9) Share Food- Good concept again but who owns the land? Who is making money off the 500k you gave them for free to build a warehouse, not even the food? If we cut the spending people will not be taxed, can afford to pay more and hire more people, and more people can provide for themselves with purpose and will not be starving. It is all a cycle that is squeezed off with taxes and spirals us into communism.
10) Habitat for humanity dairy project. What dairy business got a big pay day?
11) Housing Authority Affordable housing preservation initiative project. The fact this is so long should tell you how corrupt it is. They fix up these houses but not yours! Who is gaining massive property value on these homes? It probably isnt the poor people renting with section 8 funds. They should own the home, and more jobs and less tax would keep costs down for them to do it! They are being crushed by inflation and poor wages from illegal immigrants driving wages down and work demands up, inducing slavery for us all.
Give us more money and help your neighbors! Stop having these people spend our money! That is the way to prosperity for all!
